Environmental Savings
The greeting card that cares a little bit more..Over the years much has changed in the printing and greeting card industry (and much has not). Machinery has changed in order to facilitate short run printing available to everyone, reducing the need to rely on commercially published greeting cards and offering a new level of customization. At ecotidings.com we use unique printing techniques that have virtually no waste products and all of our cards are printed utilizing 100% Post-Consumer recycled paper and envelopes, both which are manufactured at paper mills that use 100% Wind Energy. Below you can find a listing of environmental savings that are a direct result of using recycle paper and savings due to the use of wind energy. All environmental impacts are reduced for air quality, water usage, land fill usage, and in our forests.
Eco Facts
All savings quoted are based on 1500 lbs. of paper used in the production of approximately 35,000 folded 5x7 greeting cards and their envelopes. All savings are approximations derived from industry averages and studies by environmental agencies.
100% Recycled paper vs. Virgin wood paper (per 1500 lbs)-14 Mature trees preserved
-42 lbs of waterborne waste saved
-6117 gallons of waste water saved
-677 lbs of solid waste saved (it takes 2-3 tons of wood to make 1 ton of paper)
-1333 lbs of green house gases prevented
-10,200,00 BTU's energy not consumed (equivalent to burning 81 gallons of gasoline)
-1700 lbs of used consumer paper that was not discarded in land fills (paper can be recycled 5-7 times before fibers will be unusable)
-These figures also do not include the greenhouse gases that the saved trees would remove from our atmosphere every year. A mature tree will process and store up to 50 lbs of CO2 per year over its average 40 years of life.
Note: All paper recycled is de-inked and whitened with Process Chlorine Free methods resulting in a natural white card stock (not gray or brown as many relate to recycle paper colour)
Wind Power Environmental Savings(production of 1500 lbs of paper)-670 lbs. of greenhouse gases not emitted
-5632 cubic feet of natural gas saved (or 3/4 of a barrel fuel oil saved)
-These figures are equivalent to driving 670 miles in the average vehicle or planting 46 trees (or the amount of greenhouse gas that can be absorbed by 15 mature trees in 1 year)
Environmental Printing Techniques (non quantified)-Printer technology that enables ecotidings.com to print on any smooth paper surface (enabling us to use 100% recycled paper to achieve an image with a color range equivalent to or greater than standard photo prints). This feature also eliminates the use of coated paper which adds to the waste products when recycling and de-inking occurs.
-NO chemicals or waste liquids used
-NO solvents required for printing or cleaning
-NO plastic cartridges or bulky consumables used in printing (toner cartridges and consumables used in other printing technologies require extra emissions to manufacture, package and ship the components and for the most part are not reusable or recyclable and end up in the land fill) All of our ink is simply packaged in recycled boxes with no additional packing materials (boxes are recycled again in the normal cardboard chain)
-each card that is printed by ecotidings.com is fully recyclable or can be displayed in standard 5x7 frames or matted 8x10 frames.
